Retrofit 'green skills' research
Thursday, 21 May 2026 · 10:00 – 11:00
About this event
This is a 1-hour research webinar to understand barriers to the uptake of green skills training, from the perspective of the retrofit community.
The University of Nottingham is carrying out this work for Nottingham College around the skills agenda within construction / retrofit and the lack of appetite in uptake for courses despite investment in training provision.
As part of the research project we are hosting this online focus group to discuss these challenges and to feed industry intel directly into the research project. The aim is to get a better understanding of the barriers to upskill in these green technologies and help to address the skills gap.
Funded by the Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) this research is a collaboration between the University of Nottingham and Nottingham College.
Dr Jo-Anna Russon and Prof Volker Wedekind are co-leading the session, supported by Nottingham College.
This study aims to investigate barriers affecting employers’ and learners’ engagement with green skills training in the East Midlands, with a particular focus on the construction sector, and to co-produce recommendations for improving uptake.
By participating you will have the opportunity to improve understanding across sectors of construction and sustainability of green skills training. We hope you will enjoy the chance to influence future decisions in the field.
